new stereo camera mode

The new stereo mode which has been added in version 2.2 looks quite interesting, but I would appreciate it, if you could give a little more detail on its usage and workflow.
Lightwave's native stereo mode for example allows you to easily create those red/green images or separate images which can be composed in another software.

1. I guess I get Kray's idea wrong, because why on earth would one create more than 2 images while having only two eyes?
2. And why are those images saved in a strip and not in separate images.
3. What unit do you use for the eye separation? 0.01 of what? Meters? This seems to be pretty small for standard eye separation.

There are several stereogram types one of which is anaglyph that uses red-blue glasses as you mention. Other being autostereograms, polarized stereo images, wiggle-grams etc.

So instead of giving you only anaglyph mode Kray gives you a strip of images from which you can then create any type of stereogram you like.
Using number of images >2 you can easily get depth perception without using any special glasses, you just need to focus your eyes on a distant point behind or in front of the screen (cross eyes viewing) so that images merge into one.

You can also create anaglyph red-blue stereograms by rendering out 2 strip stereo render and then using external application like Adobe AfterFX or this free little program which gives you great conrol over how your stereogram looks like.

The eye separation distance is in meters and should be adjusted to taste. I have found that 0.01 works well even though it may not seem physically correct.
