Re: How would I break down this scene?
Well I know it's not really a solution, but you can always render shadows/reflexions with LW render buffer (no GI/refractions/ect in order to have quick renders) and then composite them?

Re: Ambient occlusion
Hello again! (just see your message on LWF :) ) SGambocclusion got a shader version too, which allow to override all others surfaces, meaning that you apply the shader to one surface, check "override surfaces" and got ambient occlusion on every surfaces in the scenes: http://www2.informati...

Re: Kray instance problem in LW10
Absolutely! You cannot expect a render engin to render hundred of millions polygonal trees in minutes, it's not a question of how Kray deals with instance (even if, of course, a software could always be better), it's a question of logic...Having high power in hardware shouldn't allow people to forge...

Re: What happened with CORE?
For what I see, it's look like 9.6 + vpr + bugs
Hopefully for newtek, we as lightwave users love our software!
Otherwise I don't see any reasons to upgrades to lw10...except as Nico say to pay less for Core...
Have a question though...if we upgrade to LW10, will we be allowed to download Core?

Re: Kray instance problem in LW10
Indexed color is a color mode which reduce the amount of color of a picture, in many cases 256 color picture are enough (yes I didn't believe that at first, but it really work), here's a screenshot of the Photoshop windows (in French sorry): indexed_color.jpg I guess that "original file" m...

Re: Kray instance problem in LW10
Just remember one thing...I know that google 3d models may look like crap at first, but some of them could really be surprising good at render (particularly for a long view like yours) example . Maybe could you have a try with them (fixing texture/color map to match your goal) and if it works, just ...

Re: Kray instance problem in LW10
Millions polygons trees seams a LOT for this kind of view! I don't think UVmapping could be a problem regarding render time (except if you have really big map...have you try Indexed Color for your map? It often save a lot of ram). I know it could be a lot of work (depending how much kind of tree you...

Re: What improvements would you like to see in Kray next?
Well "we are focusing on things you guys voted for the most" is pretty clear to me
Maybe pick up 3 or 4 from the most voted stuff and guess that here you have kray 3.0....hooo gpu rendering would be so smooth!

Re: Ambient occlusion
I never try to render an AO passe with kray...however I think it should work just as Lightwave, meaning with nodes. If your question is about how to render an AO pass in LW (and not in kray, cause there is (still?) no way to have an AO buffer), you may try shadermeister (but it's not a free plug) wh...

Re: Physical Sky and Lumi surfaces
Well the bug are no longer in the scene, but I'll do this for you for sure! I have another scene (but an interior scene) with the scene "problem"...curiously it's only with scene with photometric lights. I can package scenes as it is if you want...but as I'm not sure what's involved in the...

Re: Physical Sky and Lumi surfaces
Hi Johnny! Thank you for quick answer. Problem came from here indeed :D test3.jpg My luminosity model was indirect (the one by default?) and switching to the other mode (automatic and direct) allow kray to render the surface correctly (well it crash one time, but after crash everything fine, even wi...

Physical Sky and Lumi surfaces
Hi there! I'm meeting an issue whe using luminous surface with Physical Sky: here's a picture with only Physical Sky and some photometric lights: test.jpg What I want is to light the tree balloons lights with a luminous surface (the tree balls at the back right of the picture), but here's the result...

Re: Kray grass tests
Hi! I'm still a Kray newbie, but I guess that QMC is Cache Irradiance turned OFF ? I've tried this and got this picture in 12 min! :D (Plus this is photonmapping, previous one was lightmap). I'm a bit surprised cause in the Kray tips and tricks, it's said that Uncached Irrandiance get good results b...

By the way, here's a modeler screenshot of the geometry, with the polygons statistic panel, in order to show you the number of polygons involved in this grass

Kray grass tests
Hi there! I'm starting some Kray grass. This one is really basic (only 1 color map) and the render is basic photon mapping render (no changes) with sunsky. For now I have two layers of grass (long and short) and one for weed...it's working fine and, I'm sure that with a good lightning and texturing,...
