Why can´t I find any "easy to understand" tutorial on the subject DOF in Kray? I have been trying to figure out how to do it and preferably would be to just add a Null object as the point of where the camera will have a clear spot of the rendered shot. The manual that was delivered with Kray seems to be out of date because the Kray version I got says v.2 but the manuals refere to v.1
At page 10 in this manual there´s an image of a menu in Kray that is called "KRAY Redering Options"! That option window can´t be found in my version of KRAY! What´s going on? Here´s also information about different Camera options such as Perspective, Stochastic and Lense alternatives. I can´t find any of them in the latest version of Kray, what´s happening?
I need information exactly of how I make the DOF thing work in Kray otherwise I go nuts on this...
IMHO professional way is use DoF PRO. I use only this: fast, easy, fantastic quality..and You don`t need use strong AA in Kray
So: only Z-buffer+ DoF pro......
Anyway, here´s what it says: DOF target will let you choose object which Kray will use as a focus point. This option overrides Lightwave camera Focal distance. Note: to see DOF in render you must choose FSAA or Random Antialiasing mode on Sampling tab.
I have now added the FSAA mode but can´t see any effect of DOF anywhere after rendering! I thought the focus point and Kray in combination pretty much would setup values by it self but since no information about sizes or other DOF values shows up I guess there has to be a scienctist to rule this... or do you have any other suggestions that may be a help?
P.S. Why aren´t there any great videotutorials on Kray? That would be much better than a white paper manual that only fits techno freaks! Im just another 3D freak, but unfortunally not a technician...

Wow! Was a while ago I heard of this but it still looks very nice!
Do you have any idea if its extremely slow in the render process or if it have any other disadvantages built in the structure?
To me it looks complicated and a little bit backwards since I understand the work process as I have to leave my 3D application to start working Photoshop before I can add DoF to my animations, stills or films. Do you really edit each one of your animated image sequenses to get a result? In that case it sounds like a hell lot of work to get the job done!

By saying this I almost have reached my limits in the language of Suomi! The rest is based on the information of one of my old Karate trainer´s name "Partanen", which I guess means beard. (Shameful that I know this little Finish when my wife is half Finish/half English!)
But Johny, please tell me this because maybe I didn´t get the whole picture of DoF pro!
Most information on their webpage lead me to that every image must be opened and adjusted in Photoshop. So heres the question again: Do you have to convert every single picture of an animation sequense one by one in Photoshop? Correct me if I am wrong but to me this seems to be a terrible way to waste time and life!

LOL, that would be kinda slow indeed.
DOF pro is more suited toward stills, not so much for animations. There is however a batch mode that can apply DOF to a bunch of images but I have never used it. To add DOF to animations the common way is to use After Effects or Digital Fusion or some other compositing package...
Chezzuz and thanks for your answer. I couldn´t almost sleep last night when thinking of anyone that would even start a procedure to add blur image by image in Photoshop! Because to me it sounds like the closest any one could come to the expression"self torture".

Now I am looking forward to hear what Johny meant by writing this? Have he found the secret key for adding DoF to long animated sequenses as well?

Since DoF Pro seems to be a very qualified product for adding "Post Blur" it´s really strange that they don´t increase their ambitions to develope it more than offering externals to take care of it. Why don´t they find more interest to spread a great tool even for animation? If it´s just as good as they tell it would be a bargain both for the users and the DoF PRO guys!

IMHo DoF pro is more prof. I don`t seeproblem in animation. You need just render frames + Z-buffer. DoF pro is very fast now (can use multi CPU, so on my 8 core is momemnt render DoF for tv size screen) need ofcoarse training, this is not easy tool.
Problem is only ONE: transparency....
