black areas

Post by sat »

With the latest OB7 I ran into the following problem.
The image renders fine but when Kray does the antialiasing pass it produces those ugly black areas and I have no idea why this happens.

Attached you will find a sample of an image.

I have tried different pixel filters in combination with the medium preset with no luck. The image itself uses photon mapping.

OK. I did further tests and it seems to happen, when the luminosity and value of the skydome is too low.
It doesn't seem to depend on the number of global photons as it only happens during antialiasing. This is strange.
By the way, switching to lightmap produced a different result regarding the final rendering but the black areas were the same.

Once more. It is the luminosity value. If it is too low (<10%) I get those black areas.

Regarding the skydome itself, what shadow flag options do you recommend (Self Shadow, Cast Shadow and Receive Shadow)?

Sounds like a bug. Please send me a scene.

On skydome I turn off all shadow flags.

Hi jure,

thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I cannot give away that specific scene right now. I will try to recreate that bug in another more simple scene and will forward it to you.
Thanks for the tip on the skydome.

That scene would be extremely valuable for fixing the bug. So perhaps you can strip it to the bare minimum?
