Another exterior

Post by phile_forum »

Everyone's doing it, so here's my go so far.

I think it lacks a bit of visual "pop" so I might do some more work on the textures.

Spot light + sunsky. 4 bounces.

Comments, suggestions for improvement etc welcome.

Hey looks good Phile, solid lighting, nice shadows (not too dark). I agree on the textures, those need a bit of work to really take advantage of the lighting. Nice work.

P.S. if everyone jumped off a bridge would you do that to? lol

Great stuff!

I see a lot of new users coming up with great renders, it's nice to see people are learning fast!

mind sharing some rendertime / cpu info as well?

Thanks for the comments.

Render time is 10 min on a 2.4GHz Q6600 (quad core). Most of that is down to anti-aliasing the polygonal plants I put in front of the buildings. If I'd used 2D plants, render time would have been just a couple of minutes.

very nice lighting and rendering. I like the building too. How did you make that grass on the foreground? When I texture grass kray blurs it too much when doing aa. Is it possible to control a surface or objects AA in kray?

Nothing special about it. Just a flat plane with a texture map (from ambientlight). Anti-aliasing settings for Kray are Low, Quasi-random, 0.01,10,50, Nitchell.

Hello and welcome!

It's a very good start!
The only thing is the lights, you could add some IES to get better light effects and more realism.
Check Denis Pontonnier IES node.

its a great start, throw in some dirt on the pavement and siding for realism (maybe in post), its too clean at the moment.

good work!

Turbidity 4, horizon brightness 0.5 - all other settings default. Sun is a spot light 1km distant with inverse square falloff & a range of 1km. Set the colour to a warm yellow/orange. The blue from the sunsky should correct this and yield white-ish light.

You may have to experiment to get the relative intensities of your sun light and the sunsky background right. After that, you should spend time tweaking the textures.
