glass question

Post by _mats_ »

Hello,

I have a quick question, I am having a strange reflection issue with a glass element, maybe it can be diagnosed by looking at the render.

its a simple glass material with a tad of refraction, the problem I have is that the upper part of the glass that shows the floor behind seems to have an "additive" kind of look to the edges instead of looking clear as the part that shows the ottoman behind.

I dont think in real life it would look like this, any ideas?

thanks !

Problem solved !

too much reflection and other issues caused that.. I should try more and be more patient before posting :)

All good

Other issues? Maybe I could learn also, can you share the glass settings in that last image (looks great).

Yes remeber all values all together should never exceed 100%

Here it is.

by other issues I think the displacement was too much, glass has a tiny displacement to make it look irregular, but I think the problem was that adding all the values it might have been over 100% like Silver said

Thanks !

Thanks mate! It's nice people share their setups, coz it might just be one percent tweak off and you still struggle for decent material for 30 minutes...

hey you're welcome, no worries

I agree, I tend to spend hours trying to fine tune a material, then I change the lighting or something and the realism is off.. Im slowly getting the hang of Kray so that I tweak the settings and I kinda know how its going to render.

thinking of getting an 8 core machine just to do quick preview renders, I figure it will really speed up that process, until we get fprime for kray or something ;)

I don't think we need fprime or anything, I've been getting to learn basic steps pretty fast of Kray now... Just gotta think like Kray :)

Your glass surface rocks btw!
