Example scene needs a boost

Post by stefanj »

Hey,

I've attached a sample scene (which is really a simple version of a scene that I'm working on). I like the light temperature on it and the smoothness of the GI. But I want more AA and less noise. Seems that if I change the settings, I loose the smooth surface. I really don't feel in control yet, there are so many settings there, and things change from version to version, so becoming an expert requires a lot of studying.

That's why it would be cool to have someone with a little more control go over the settings, and "max it out". Rendering time is no issue here. All I want is some default way of setting this kind of room size up that will work.

I'm confused, what are you trying to achieve exactly? I find that the medium preset with cache irradiance ON and without those extra lights gives more detailed shadowing in the corners than the example, has no noise and is antialiased properly. It is a liitle splotchy, but that can be easily tweaked.

But since I guess you've tried the presets, what are you really going for...?

- Yeah, I see what you're saying.

In a nutshell, my intention was to say; "here is a scene, how someone tweak it so it looks less noisy ('cause when I try, I only mess up the look)?"

But I tried your tip, and it looked very smooth (although a bit darker without the fake window lights) - and appart from some white pixels along the sides of the floor (I tried fiddling with the "Corner distance" - but with no luck).

Anyways, thanks for the tip.

The problem is the scene is so simple, that just using presets is good enough for it to look ok. So I'm guessing you're going for a specific look or something, I am not sure, that's why I asked.

The white dots in the corner are a known bug, a workaround would be to give the geometry some thickness.
