Another doodle

Post by phile_forum »

Full-screen AA & lots of settings turned up, so it took 2h on my Q6600. Mitchell filter to soften the image, then sharpened it a little in post.

Played with it too. There was an article on newtek forums about modeling or texturing perforated metal a few days before you posted your doodle.

Phil, i hope i'm not ruining your trick. Just wanted others to see the post too. Vfxwizard found a really nice trick there. Useful for more purposes. Check it out.

Heh. Rumbled!

Yes, that's where I got the idea. It's a very, very clever bit of modelling. When I next get some free time, I intend to see how much further I can take the idea.

Posting here was really just to show off Kray though! :)

2 hours for a q6600 seems rather long.

1000x1000

It took ages because I turned up a lot of settings to eliminate noise (quasi random FSAA with lots of samples, for instance). There's also a lot of transparency/refraction going on, which will slow any renderer down I think. It could probably be done a lot faster but I wasn't going for optimisation.
