contact shadow in kray

Post by geo_n »

How to get better contact shadow in kray with cached photon mapping?
cached mode looks good in kray but noisy and longer render time.

btw does kray now support shadow density flag? so necessary to composite objects
atleast some on this list and kray will rock
unseen by camera flag, unseen by ray flag, Cast Shadow flag, diffuse and specular light flags, per-light shadow casting, matte colors, constant alpha, unseen by alpha, opacity alpha, shadow alpha, object unseen by alpha, object dissolve, unaffected by fog, self shadow, clip maps, solid and gradient backdrop, ImageWorld and Texture Environments, background images, depth of field, built in fog (all options), reflection, refraction enable flags, trace shadow enable, and ray recursion limit.

A bit creazy setup but look good :P
I know: contact shadow..contact shadow...but for that You have to wait for next update of Engine (it is will some ideas how increse quality and speed of render)
So...small scene for test with 2 passes

dear Johnny, I have opened your scene and I don't really see what's crazy in your setup except maybe the spatial tolerance which in my opinion must be kept under 0.07 whatever is your scene. This highly contributes to get good contact shadows.

Otherwise, it would be apreciated to have an idea on when the next engine is supposed to be released...

yes, yes i hear you...
about contact shadows - it depends a lot on the light source; area lights make sharp well defined shadows, while indirect lumi polys softer...

How soon for more friendly compositing?
I'm perfectly happy with kray render engine for now but the render flags there's no work around for it. Even fprime supports shadow density, constant value, etc in surface layers, matt and alpha constant black, etc.
Just a head ups with competition like octane, next build they have renderbuffer support and exr.

We'll make it work in next major update. Can't promise you anything right now since we have not set a deadline yet.

Ah hopefully not so long. Other renderers are catching up fast.

The command is inside LW surface editor. Check manual for more info.

I think I missed this scenefile from johny. Looks good and renders fast with kray but why not using lwf for this scene? Not needed?
