Kray_first imapressions...

Post by Macdoggie_forum »

good Day,

Just loaded a scene and tried a few test renders. I admit, I am still trying to grasp the controls. Still too soon to even try to compare this to LW's Radiosity. So I thought I would just submit a picture and my settings to see where I could go as far as tweeking the scene and settings in Kray to get what it is I am seeking to achieve. As you can see it's a hanger and i am trying to light the interior with luminious panels as wellas a skydome and one distantlight for the sun. i have attached my settings and a screenshot of my scene layout as well as a rendertest.... The scene is fairly high in polys.

I could post the scene but it is about 7 mgs (zipped)

Turn luminosity mode on quality tab to indirect for start... It does also look like leaking light in the corners. Please post your precomputed only render too...

Those presets are not optimal anymore. We will update them in one of the future OB's.

Things you may want to change:
Photons tab: Precache blur: 0-100%
FG tab.: prerender to 100%, min rays: 100 max: ~800-100
Quality tab: reflection max rays: 100-500, max octree depth: 40-80
Sampling tab: Normal 0.01-0.001

Ok,I have been trying to implement these settings but these areas are "greyed" out and I can't acess them so what are my options???? Maybe I am missing the obvious, If so please advise...

Cheers

You need to select "custom" from the preset menu. This will unlock the "advanced" options.

First turn on all raytrace flags! This what you should do ALWAYS when you render with kray:

raytrace shadows, reflections, refractions, transparency all ON

Then your skydome had too little luminosity.. it hardly gave any light to interior. You don't need skydome when you are rendering with Lightmaps. You can just use backdrop instead. But I'll leave it there for now.

Also I removed the shader you had on one of the surfaces. I don't know why you had it there...

Also on quality tab I lowered max blurring rays to 100... For faster rendering. 1000 is extremely high value and you'll rarely need it. I also turned off FG reflections/refractions on FG tab and lowered max rays to 600. This will all make testing quicker. Also turn off paths because you don't need them...

The easiest way to render this if you don't need full speed is to turn off cached irradiance on general tab. It will render noisy but very good shadow quality this way. The only settings you need to tweak to increase quality (remove noise) is FG max rays... Increase it and you'll noise will go away.

Will send you tweaked scene over email...
