Well you don't realy need to know in depth what octal tree is.
Just remember that increasing the octree depth will make renders faster but it will use more RAM. Reducing octree depth will render slower but use less RAM.

Great,... I have 5 GB RAM in my mac pro,... does it means I can use a lot of this RAm to speed up renders,.. What is your opinion of amount increasing in octal tree for 5GB of RAM, 50? 90? 200?.... Could amount of RAM supply the lack of more processors or networking render? this would be a good discovery. 8)

Well it's hard to say because octree depth depends on scene. If the scene is very large and contains relatively small details then it could take advantage of deeper octree. Kray will give you warning when it thinks that octree should be deeper - in that case it's good idea to increase the depth until the warning is gone.

Adding more RAM to overcome lack of CPU power will not really help because you only need enough RAM so that the particular scene data fits in, any more is redundant and won't speed up rendering any.
