LW 2015 worth investment?

Post by ZodiaQ »

As I only do archvis I am wondering if investing in LW 2015 is worth while?
Aside from surface based clip mapping I can't see any new functionality in 2015 that would justify the upgrade.
Especially as our core bussiness is not CG.

How about K3? will it still be supporting LW11 in future?

Very difficult question :!:

From Kray user side like Render Scene this update has no sense. There is nothing new for Kray since many years which is important for rendering (since Instances and IES system).
But from workflow side this is the best Lightwave in history (LW2015v02). Finally no problems with OpelGL - before I had non stop problems with lags and refreshing. tried install different Nvidia drivers, etc. Also LW2015v02 has much less crashes then previous versions (except this freaking Node system which gives sometimes crashes since I remember). Do not expect faster OpenGL - still no good improvement there (in Max3D way better situation) but now this version seems to be very stable.
New Clip map finally done in LW (how many years they need to understand how important it is?!) Doesn`t work in K2.59 (bug).
Lightwave Render Engine surprisingly fast! Seems be really fast, close to Kray. But again I repeat: AA and reflection blur far away from Kray quality.

I think LW2015v02+K2.58 the best configuration now.

K3 will be supported in old LW versions. But from files what I get from G. the oldest version is for LW11.5.

Hi Janusz,

where can I find 2.58? I only see the latest version for download (2.59).

best regards

There is no differences (almost) between 2.58 and 2.59 except not working new clip map in the last one version. I sent already this bug to G. You can use 2.59 just remember use old clip system in LW. When he will back will remind him to update ...and I think 2.60 will be last version of K2. Will be no more updates (only compatibility with next LW versions).
K3 now is priority for G. and still is a lot to do.

Thx for info, from budget side of view I guess we will be sticking with 11.6.3 for now.
