Kray interior render and scene attached !

Post by the3dcie »

Hey everyone.

A long time Kray owner here, but being on Mac i'm not using it very often because it's very frustrating to have so much crashes and weird behaviours when using Kray. (for example i have to quit each 3 or 4 renders as i get a crash or i can't save anything anymore in LightWave... Well it's not the place to discuss that anyway)

But as i was posting one of my latest archviz tests on Newtek's forums (here), i thought i would try to render it with Kray.
And i was really pleased with the result as well as the render time !
The thing is i don't understand how to get rid of the noise in the blurry reflections so if someone want to give it a go, i have uploaded the complete scene. :D

Otherwise looking forward to any comment, i'll start using Kray more and more i think, as i have recently decided to focus more on archviz and that's one of the strongest feature of Kray.

Thank You for scene. In free time I will check it.
btw MAC version Kray: G. has also MAC for testing bugs in MAC version, so if you have some problems send him directly scene.
gtanski@kraytracing.com
But try before find situation when scene crash all the time or situation of big probability of crashing.
Will back to this topic soon

Thanks for the link Janusz, will do that.

I'm impatient to see what can be done with this scene as i'll probably learn a lot of things on how to improve my knowledge of this great render engine. :)

Thanks Janusz for your test ! :)

Although i'm not a big fan of the post-process you applied, i'm more than jealous of your soft reflections, as it's one thing i have the most difficulties to deal with in Kray ! :o

Admittedly i'm not using this render engine that often so my experience with it is quite low (damn Mac problems, i really need to send a bug report to Gregorsz with a quick screen recording so that he can see what type of problem i have with Kray...), but still i haven't figured yet how to avoid noise in blurry reflections.

Thanks again for taking the time, looking forward to any tip you have regarding the settings and materials, especially the black wall and this gorgeous floor ! :D

anyway here you have RAW:

With this blur "problem" call me via Skype.
Thx about surfaces , they are all Nodes (so no tweaking ...only some to get surface according to my needs) I just put them and press render

Hey, thanks for your tests ! :)

Although a bit too "white" for my taste, you have some good camera angles there, quite cool.

I like the contrast and lighting of the first post.
I loaded the scene but I dont have IFW nodes.
There's octane scene too curious to test it.

I rendered the scene without touching anything. 15min with I7. That's long render time for 750x500
Image so lws is different from first post scene.
What's the render time for the first post with that light setup just curious?

Yes Octane scene is setup as well and the good news is you don't need IFW2 for this scene as Octane doesn't recognize the plugin !
As for the render time of the first image of this thread, it took 1h34' for a 1500x1000 on my i7/4770k OC @4Ghz to complete, although it could probably be faster if i knew how to use Kray !

But seeing the render you posted it looks like something went really weird with those books "flying" in front of the camera...

More seriously the render coming out the scene i posted can't be exactly the same as the one i posted in the first post because there are trees and textures i can't redistribute so i made some quite quickly to overcome the problem but they are far from the original, probably the reason why i paid for those textures !

Yeah those books I think are instancing error. The lighting seems drastically different, too, regardless of the texture.
1hr 34min you guys have patience. My limit is 20 mins

The fact is the lighting is exactly the same i used in the first post, it's only been post-processed "a little bit". ;)
As for the render time 1h30' is actually really fast for this size and this quality, LightWave's render (at the same size) took around 20 hours to complete, due for the biggest part to the slow refining of blurry reflections !

But you can't have quality interior renderings in minutes, that's just not possible except on some cases when the scene is fairly simple to light and render.
