Some new renders from my last project.

C&C are welcome!

Good job! Did you render by QMC?

Thanks for replies!

Yes, I always render in QMC because it brings better shadows. In this case i made some tests regarding render times. It was much faster using QMC than not.

Yes, doesn`t exist problem with contact shadow but also Photon Map must be good (good idea is to check in Precomputed mode size and blending situation with cells)
Apparently QMC in Kray is less sensitive for bad photon map then Final Gathering.
I am not sure is somebody noticed this, here example:
http://www.kraytracing.com/joomla/forum ... =viewtopic
Please notice cells in Precomputed mode on the right/top side render , where is shelf. There should be light leak!...but is not (it is something bright under shelf but very small). To reduce it you can raise up Path Passes distance up to 100% or more (In scene is 20% for a bit faster render). It`s give extra more distance from corners for Path Tracing Photons and by this accuracy in GI is higher.

What min/max FG did you put in Final Gathering setup?

Great renders! Please, tell us something about settings.

Actually it is set to very low settings. I put more attention to materials. Scene is lit only with the Physical sky. Other settings: QMC 400.000 photons ; FG min/max 100/600; 1pass; AA G2 FSA; BT min/max 500/1000; using QucikLWF and Tonemap blend.

If may I suggest  :
1. Physical sky - perfect (only one source of light which give correct and accurate light)
2. 400.000 is way too less. Can be situation when you will not fill completely scene by photons (1.000.000 should be standard. If scene has huge area then even 2 or 4 millions)
3. QMC doesn't have photons - it is no interpolated calculation of GI. First part must be shoot with photons - why is faster then Path Tracing. So only Path Tracing doesn`t have phase with shooting photons and this is only different between QMC and PT (generally). The limitation in QMC (limited amount of photons which are interpolated by resolution: GI resolution) make much faster render then PT because of that limits.
4. FG 100/600 is quite high. But you have noise - it`s comes from low AA setting.
If you will decrease FG (100/300) and increase AA (Grid3) you will get almost the same time but better quality render :)
5. Passes doesn't work in QMC (this function works only in Final Gathering to help find more GI samples)
6. BT - blur? I noticed: If we use balanced light , no strong, good tonemap (less Exponential or only gamma render) then blur can be really very small (min/max 100/300)
7. I suggest setup manually GI resolution
- Interiors 300 mm (less or more increase time render from my tests)
- exteriors 600 mm - 1000 mm (I did not check what is the best value but I think much more then Interiors)

I hope I helped to understand tech stuff which really will help in future make better and faster renders

Thank you for the tips :) I will play with new settings a little bit to see how time and quality is changing. I used AA grid2 because resolution of image was 1920*1080. I thought higher resolutions dont need good AA.

And yes with BT i meant blurring threshold, which i think is more important in interiors where materials are more perfected.

Full HD in interiors should be around 1 - 2h (12 HT CPU, more reflection surfaces - closer 2h) in HQ render + QMC. For exteriors ...last time I did not render it because I wait for Physky2. I think much faster then interiors.
