Hi. Had a look around the site but cannot find a definitive answer. If I am using the blend tonemap plugin, will any buffers exported be affected by this, or exported as linear? Im struggling to get the layered buffer images to look like the compped image saved from Kray.
Or maybe I am layering them in the wrong order with the wrong blend modes?
Buffer export and tone maps
Re: Buffer export and tone maps
Buffers are affected by tonemap.
The buffers can be comped together with this formula:
final image=tone_mapping_operator((caus+dire+indi)*txtr+othr+lumi+refl+refr)

Thanks again Jure. I saw that formula but was could not get it right in Photoshop. Do you need to group the first set within the brackets?
Re: Buffer export and tone maps
Hi Jure. I tried re-rendering with the tonemap blend plugin disabled and with tonemap set to linear on the first config page.
The buffer images that were exported were exactly the same (apart from indirect) as the buffers exported with tonemapping/blending on.
So it appears that is my issue - buffers are linear? You mentioned that buffers are affected by tonemapping. Do you think there is a bug, or do I need to add a footer command to force them to follow tonemapping settings?
Cheers

Linear = disabled...gristle wrote:Hi Jure. I tried re-rendering with the tonemap blend plugin disabled and with tonemap set to linear on the first config page.

Try with gamma 2.2 or exponential for example.

Re: Buffer export and tone maps
I'll have a look tomorrow. So the tonemap blend is not applied to the buffers, just the tonemap settings on the 1st config page?
Re: Buffer export and tone maps
No, tonemap blending IS also applied.gristle wrote:I'll have a look tomorrow. So the tonemap blend is not applied to the buffers, just the tonemap settings on the 1st config page?

Re: Buffer export and tone maps
Hi Jure. I have had no luck with this. Turned tonemap blending off and tried 2 tests. One with Gamma 2.0 exp 1.2 and one with Exponential 2.0 and 1.2. Both final images (standard save from Kray) look different as you would expect. Buffers are the same, apart from photon/FG differences!! To get the buffers to look remotely like the Kray Commped image, I have to add a levels adj layer at the top and make gamma 2.0/2.2.
It appears that this is not working as intended with Kray 2.3 and LW 9.6.1. Its a pain that they do not match, so I'll have to do the tonemapping elsewhere.
