...do I need to use it here? In LightWave HC, the plug-in?

Lightwave HC only linearize textures and color picker when I asked matt in core forum.
Kray qwlf plug I think linearize all lights, textures, etc.

You just use colours in the LightWave, it is not getting converted, is it?

I think in latest HC you won't need it... I haven't tried myself though so I can't say 100%.
