Kray Tonemap Blending

Post by sat »

When using Kray Tonemap Blending, do I need KrayQuickLWF or do I have to turn it off or does Kray use them both side by side. If it uses both what are the preferred settings for KrayQuickLWF? Linear? Thanks.

This is correct setup (and the best)
30% means: 70% exponential and 30% gamma.
Important! Tonemap in Kray MUST BE OFF : Linear

LWF keep real colours so we don`t need it. But You can test :)
HSV is old trick for Exponential , becouse exponential too much kill colours and too much chenge it.
IF You have 30% gamma with LWF this is enough...more gamma = more colours and more overbright areas.

Is this the same for interiors and exteriors? If I use the same settings for both, my exteriors have the ground overexposed or interiors are too dark.

Interiors and exteriors are difference! .. but setup silimar.
In Exteriors I suggest low Exposure on Physky: turbity 2, exposure under 2. and POWER in Kray 1.5-2.0.
For Interiors: Physky turbity 3 or more and exposure Physky 4-6 + Rapid light in windows (lumi poly or Area Lights)+ lights inside ON. Power in Kray: what You need: for big contrast under 0.8.
Tonemaping in Kray are big tool, You can experiment with difference setup.
Basic is: LINEAR in Kray (so is OFF this is important) + LWF gamma 1.4-2.2 + Reinhard gamma SAME as in LWF, exponential 2.2, blending 30-50%. But of coarse feel free! all setup are good when You have good result. LWF and First tonemaping in Reinhard must be same. When gamma is 1.2 in reinhard must be 1.2, when You use LWF LINEAR in Reinhard You must use LINEAR as first tonemp, second tonemap : feel free :D

Thanks Johny!

First of all there is a slight problem because we don't have LWF in the SketchUp or command line versions. I'm just going to try to work around this.

Let me see if I understand it correctly:-

Exteriors
Physky - turbidity 2, exposure <2

Tonemap 1 - linear ( = gamma exposure 1,1)
Tonemap 2 - exponential 1.4-2.2
blending 30-50%

Interiors
Physky - turbidity 3, exposure 4-6

Tonemap 2 - exponential 1.4-2.2
blending 30-50% with additional light sources in windows

Just out of interest, why have you started to use lumi polys in the windows instead of using the photon multiplier for the floors and walls like you used to? Is it just that you get better results, or is the setup easier?
