LW Ray Recursion Limit and how does affect Kray

So, I was struggling against some light leaks and I wasn't able to find the problem: geometry, lights and materials were perfect... but eventually I found an unexpected solution! I don't know if this is documented or not, I don't remember read anything about that, but here's what I found out: If you...

Re: Lw or kray bug? [package scene lw 2015.1]

Thanks, but if is something wrong please post immediately - but before check twice and send me synthetic small scene with bug (if possible). It was a lot changes in LW2015 and can be we missed something and also are some bugs in new Lightwave and G. did not make enough bypasses for temporary avoidi...

Re: Lw or kray bug? [package scene lw 2015.1]

Just a small update: I'm trying the 2.58 and it's working fine with LW 2015.1, all problem solved.
Good job!

Re: Lw or kray bug? [package scene lw 2015.1]

OK, thank you Janusz, I'll stick to 11.6.3 for now.
Helpful as always!

Lw or kray bug? [package scene lw 2015.1]

Hi guys, any info about compatibility issue with kray 2.57 and lw 2015.1? I'm experiencing a problem I can't solve: if I try to load an old scene, say a lw 11.6.3 scene, it works ok BUT if I try to use the Package Scene function (in File->Package Scene) there is no way the new scene works in Kray: i...

Re: Cheating SSS, Sub Surface Scattering

Here we go, the scene for those who want to do some experiments. Basically it's just a transparent node with 100% refl/refr blur. I don't know if the grad thickness node output is connected in the right way, as Janusz said it's a strange node to control and sometimes doesn't seems to affect the mate...

Re: Cheating SSS, Sub Surface Scattering

Ok, here's my attempt. It's far from perfect (it's just a super fast setup actually), as you said the thickness is difficult to control.
1 is fake sss
2 is fake sss + double side
3 is normal surface with just some fresnel

Re: Cheating SSS, Sub Surface Scattering

Ouch...
What do you mean by double translucency? Double side surface + node setup with different translucency for poligon side? I usually do that with different materials using spot info poly side and switch node, I'll give a try
Btw, do you thing kray 3.x will have this kind of surfaces?

Cheating SSS, Sub Surface Scattering

Hi guys, I know that the lw SSS nodes don't work in kray: any ideas how to make a fake but convincing sub surface scattering for something like rubber, wax, plastic and similar?
I was thinking about the thickness node and transparency + translucency, anyone who managed that in a good result?
Thanks!

Re: Carpaint node compatibility

Ok, I'll try this!

Meanwhile, I'll be waiting for your nodes, I'm really curious because for now I'm not getting the best (yet) from kray, and I still using the lw engine for production :-/

Carpaint node compatibility

Hi guys, do you know if the carpaint node works well in Kray?
I'm getting strange results, and it's super (super!) slow to render...

Re: Some test, N value, light leaks etc...

Yes, for sure it's a strong pp that make the deal with this images. PP a part, I can do something really similar in lw but not in kray, so for me is a good benchmark to work on and learn kray. Ok, this is the super basic setup, all reset, just a basic tonemap, so I can better understand one piece at...

Re: Some test, N value, light leaks etc...

Hi Janusz, thank you as always for your answers. So, I moved the light outside but behind the object, but the problem is still there: the leak goes away only if I set the lamp translucency = 0, this fix the problem with light leak and general splotches and the render looks perfect. In your experienc...

Some test, N value, light leaks etc...

Hi guys, it's me again with a new render for you, and some problems to solve. As you can see, I'm going on with experimentation in kray. This time is an old scene I made in lw time re-interpreting the famous work of Alex Roman: nothing new, but a good start point for common problems in archviz. Unfo...
