Re: the new engine GPU come to life
Hi Guys, Saw your discussion. We do film, commerials, archiviz etc. We use whatever tool that is available. I mean, Zbrush, photoshop, lightwave, maya, arnold, renderman, kray, lightwave native, vray, renderfarm, nuke, fusion etc. But NO GPU. Its cool for VPR and that stuff and thats it. Lightwave a...

Re: Octane quick test-drive
Yes mdharrington, There are a lot cheaper GPU cards, but if we need to have GPU card, we get a quadro K6000 or M6000 which rate at 5K. And yes you can buy lower cards for octane, but they are useless for other software like some compositing software or 3D render engines. (joy) Which leads to the fac...

Re: Octane quick test-drive
Hi, We have been testing a lot of render engines, cpu and gpu based. These are our conclusions: 1. For 3D: GPU is fast and good to use for viewport rendering. You dont need to buy an expensive graphics card to get results. But for final render its different. Stills okay, but when it comes to animati...

Re: Ocean / Sea / Water
If you can not make the fog in comp you have another option. You can set the transparency of the water object with a distance from camera. Is what the lightwave does internally when using fog. To make water realistic you need to work a lot on the bumps, best to do it procedural. Just remember that w...

Re: Feature film with kray
Here's the breakdown of some shots. https://vimeo.com/147127933 Little extra information: shooting was on arri (colorspace arri log c) compositing in fusion, tracking in syntheyes. I did a small baking of the shots and then dropped them on the farm with path tracing on. Rendertimes were between 12 m...

Re: Feature film with kray
Hi Thomas, Belgium used to be all Lightwave, but it changed to Maya. All the old Lightwave guys from years ago are now more into supervising, directing etc. Young artists are into maya, but with openEXR, alembic and others, its very easy to use whatever software in your pipeline. I just find lightwa...

Re: Network render issue
Hi Janusz,
With cache irridiance off, it happens random to nodes/workstations in the renderfarm after second render. Anybody else had this problem?

Looking for a kray artist
Dear Kray users,
We are looking for a kray artist who can do a small job for us this week. Its an architectural visualisation of a shop, our client needs stills. Please contact thomas@eshloraque.com and send some references of your work please.

Re: Network render issue
Hey Janusz, I found a workaround for the bug: 1. Bake the gi cache (bake only, framestep, etc...) 2. Render the frames on the farm with cache irridiance OFF. So it loads the cache, even with cache off. Difference is 10% more rendertime. (my rendertime is average of 12min on the farm, 8 on workstatio...

Cool, makes sense. Same pipeline like we do in maya with arnold and vray.

Re: Network render issue
So did some debugging all day for this. It seems to happen when the renderslave starts to calculate the prerendering. Which means that an old bug is back. (see previous threats about instancing and rendering second frame hangs)
Attached the renderlog.
