Re: Octane quick test-drive

Yes mdharrington, There are a lot cheaper GPU cards, but if we need to have GPU card, we get a quadro K6000 or M6000 which rate at 5K. And yes you can buy lower cards for octane, but they are useless for other software like some compositing software or 3D render engines. (joy) Which leads to the fa...

Re: Octane quick test-drive

1 good GPU cost $5000 euro??? Quadro's are not a necessity for GPU rendering...not at all You will see by these benchmarks...a sub $650 GPU will destroy the most expensive Quadro made https://render.otoy.com/octanebench/results.php?sort_by=avg&filter=&singleGPU=1 Quadros only offer advantage...

Re: Octane quick test-drive

The Octane PMC path tracing algorithm is slightly different from all others. The difference being that the algorithm fires samples towards problem areas and searches better paths to sample. Sort of like adaptive sampling or importance sampling. It takes longer but produces more accurate caustics the...

Re: KRAY 2.56 is out

I say that because still I do not see good renders from this software in Lightwave. Images of balls and boxes in HDRi environment are not scenes to show something. Still I wait for really good interiors and exteriors. I have doubts also about popularity of this software. Please remember this is Pat...

Re: KRAY 2.56 is out

I am not worry about development. G. has good selling in Podium from Google Sketchup - there is a lot users. Actually he doesnt need to work on both versions (LW and Podium) because core is the same. Connection core-software is done by very well documented Kray SDK. But we must understand: Lightwav...

Re: Texturing Myth

dont know about vstack... but specular and glossiness are fakes from older CG days when computers did not have much power. In reality there is no such thing (at least in the way lightwave does it) You can still use them to give things the look you want, but in a physically accurate render it's best ...

Re: Network rendering and GI cache

Jure, thanks....my question was really more along the lines of network rendering.

I was specifically asking how to do a path tracing pre cache pass as it says in the network rendering tutorial.
Or are you saying we can't even use cached irradiance with light changing?

Network rendering and GI cache

was looking into a GI cache over BNR net render...... checked out the network rendering tutorial....mostly referred to 'share for all frames' mode... problem here is, my scene is a day to night animation...with flickering light that comes on during the night....so i'm thinking i need at least time i...

Re: Few issues (lightleak?)

here is uncached...no AA...all maps removed but diffuse (only on the steps) uncached.jpg I was able to get rid of some of the light leaks in the holes by changing the material for the holes to match the wall material..... before i wanted to be able to tweak the darkness of the holes so i had them on...

what can we put into the "other" buffer

What exactly can we fill in the "other" buffer slot

I was hoping for motion vectors.....

And how do we control what goes in there....header commands?

Thanks

Few issues (lightleak?)

I have a scene that I am tuning and i noticed a few issues.... on these back concrete walls those holes are just recessed into the object...they do not go through to the other side... in the render however a few of them do look like they extend to the other side which isn't right test.jpg on the ste...

Re: Dielectric and transparency color

yes...you are right of course...kray is a vastly superior render... the issue i have with the above image however is the colour balance with the kray render vs the lightwave render... this is a timelapse controlled by Dpont physical sky with the sun spot modifier....and as you see the kray result lo...
