Re: What improvements would you like to see in Kray next?
After much experimentation, this is what I'd like to see: 1. Much better anti-aliasing. 2. Animation-quality (ie. flicker-free) final gather that is feasible on a single hefty home computer (as opposed to having to rent out a render farm). This one is such a big deal that I bought the PBRT book and ...

Re: What improvements would you like to see in Kray next?
Random should use all your CPU power. If it's not then something is wrong. Like I said in the other thread, wait for the next update. Or you can also try this: enter previewsize 0,0; into header commands and use random mode. See if this uses all your cpu power. No biggie, I shall wait for the next ...

Re: What improvements would you like to see in Kray next?
Throwing KRay at 24 hardware threads (two 6-core hyperthreaded processors) has brought something interesting to light: When I use the Scanline mode (fastest, gets the most out of each and every hardware thread) there are Final Gather artifacts at the meeting points between areas rendered by differen...

Re: KRay, Multiple Processors, and Adaptive AA
Layout crashed, and now whenever I try to render with KRay, it crashes consistently after about 87-89% of it's Global PM building. SInce it was working before the crash, I assuming something got whacked into a bad state. How can I fix this? (Crash info below.) On a better note, the AA thing isn't co...

Re: KRay, Multiple Processors, and Adaptive AA
Sadly, no. I will eventually be installing Windows 7 on this new Mac Pro (ohmygodthisthingissofastimsogladisavedupforayearsoicouldbuyit) via bootcamp, but I've only had this thing a few days and the stores in my local area only sell the "upgrade" version of WIndows 7... uh... short answer:...

Re: KRay, Multiple Processors, and Adaptive AA
This is on Mac OS X (10.6.4), Lightwave 9.6, KRay 2.1. The CPU history shown above is not actually complete -- the AA pass went on for quite some time and the CPU usage never went back up past that tail end you see in the screenshot. I've also noticed that Uncached maxes out all my processors while ...

Re: KRay, Multiple Processors, and Adaptive AA
I've attached a screencap of processor usage and you can see where the adaptive AA suddenly only uses a fraction of the available processors.

KRay, Multiple Processors, and Adaptive AA
I just got this shiny new 12-core Mac and finally got Lightwave and KRay installed. Woo! Very, very fast. One thing that caught me off guard, though, is that the adaptive AA pass only uses a tiny fraction of the available cores, averaging around 4. The final gather and raytracing passes use every ou...

Re: KRay still crashing a lot after fresh reinstall of Lightwave
Sorry for the late response -- I'm not getting e-mails when I get responses here. Anyhow, KRay has been very stable lately with only the occasional crash, and (so far) never during animations. The scene above that crashed was just a simple ball and box scene for me to test out different settings. Ri...

Where does KRay stand in SSS support? I'd like to see that up and running.

Re: Kray available on REBUSFARM
Try this guys, they are the cheapest around: http://garagefarm.net/ They don't seem to have anything other than a splash page. Do you happen to know their rates? No sooner had I dismissed rentable render farms I find I'm going to need one in a few months for rendering out about eight seconds of HD ...

KRay still crashing a lot after fresh reinstall of Lightwave
This is a sparkly clean new install of LIghtwave 9.6, all prefs deleted before reinstall. KRay is the only plug-in I've added. I'm at a loss as to what is causing the problem, so I grabbed the crash info: Process: Layout [397] Path: /Applications/LightWave3D 9.6/Layout.app/Contents/MacOS/Layout Iden...

Hmmm... when I load this up it says it was saved with a newer version of KRay. Which version are you running?

Re: Need help with GI settings for animation
1/ why You use strange NODE for blur? LW is slow with normal blur ? (I know this trick: microbump is faster then normal blur in Lightwave...but we use Kray :) ) Are you referring to the ansiotropic blur? I was going for a directionally-brushed metal look. Most of the blurred reflections just use th...
