Instance

Post by geo_n »

Hi I'm new to kray software. Im reading up the wiki and can't seem to access the document on instancing. So how do I do instancing in kray? Thanks.

You just load object to Layout that you want to instance. for example model name is Bush (only one layer object)

Then create Null, name it Bush.

After that, you can scale and rotate this null to tweak the instance size etc (the bush size that is cloned in rendering to this location with rotation and scaling)

Then you just clone that Null around, rotate and resize to your needs.

Should work this easy.

You can't access the document because it has not been written yet. I put it there to encourage anyone to write a short tutorial but I guess I'll just have to do it on my own in the end...

Another little tip for null creation workflow:

As instances can be difficult to place within layout as they are just point nulls, instead of "adding" nulls just clone your objects as per normal to get their correct positions then use "replace as null" to change those cloned objects into nulls. Also you can use "item shape" in object properties to give the null some shape.

I figured out a way to clone thousands easily. I can write in that wiki if I knew how to.

no vray proxy in lw but kray has instancing.
1468 instances of penguin(9549 poly)= 14061972 poly and only used less than a gig.
rendered with lappy, core 2 1.6ghz 3gig ram winxp. impressive kray!

Nice test,

I see you've got the hang of kray instances already

Thanks for the file btw. I haven't checked how you did the grass. Really rushing time to do kray test. :)
Instancing thousands in minutes like hd instance is now possible. But I think the morphs, etc aren't cloned. Only the base mesh. Imagine if kray can do instance variations like hd instance 1.8.

I'm really interested in seeing your clone placement technique.

HD-instance support in Kray is in the roadmap for the final version of kray, hopefully that can be done.

Here you go. Sorry I made it in word. Maybe someone can add it to wiki. :)
