Here is a part of a recent project. We would like to know how to get more detail (shadow detail and bump detail) in shadow area.
In closeup you can see contact shadow isn't great and bump is completely lost in shadow area.
Masonry material is a simple white material (220) with only bump layers.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
More detail in shadow area ...

Re: More detail in shadow area ...
Is problem as always with Final Gathering "resolution"
Try render UNCACHE to see how should looks FG. Your spatial is too small and also GI resolution (for far view FG is good but if You want closeup You need change GI resolution for example 200 mm and smaller spatial for example 0.05) Is impossible to render with one setup big object and after that closeups (You need very strong FG which will affect long render in general view ....)
But I think good balance between both (general and closeup view) You can find by:
http://www.kraytracing.com/joomla/forum ... &rb_v=file
...just make higher GI resolution (300-500 mm) and maybe 2 passes (if is enough good quality). Those all "problem" with "contact shadows" will be less visible in K3.0 with new interpolation engine (is not problem because something is wrong...is just engine render and this situation appear in all renders: Moodo, V-ray, etc)
PS
be careful with Blur GI in Final Gather tab (this function nicely smooth splotches but "destroy" contact shadow because of blur) So...more FG Blur then less spatial tolerance ...less spatial tolerance You will get longer render
