Oops, it seems fog isn't working with instances...

Post by Tartiflette »

Hi, the title says it all.

When trying to render a landscape behind the house i'm worjing on now, i just noticed that when using instanced trees to make the forest in the background it doesn't take into account the fog setting of LightWave, whereas the hill in the right of the render is "faded" by the fog, as it should... :(

Is it a limitation of instances or just a bug ?

I know i can do the fog with compositing, so it's not that a big deal for now, but i thought i'd ask.

Cheers,
Laurent aka Tartiflette :)

What fog settings did you use?

Hi Jure.

Fog : linear
Min Distance : 500 m
Max Distance : 3.5 km
Min amount : 0.0 %
Max amount : 25.0 %
Fog color : 200 200 200

Quite basic really.

Well honestly I'm surprised fog works for you because it never worked here... Nor should it effect instances so I'm realy not sure what's going on. Can you maybe share your scene so i can check it?

I'll see what i can do regarding the scene, but it's quite heavy so i need to find a way to reduce the amount of data and still have that behavior.

In the meantime, i'll test without any fog in the scene to see if there is a difference at all, now that you've told me it's not supposed to work.
