Re: water glass and caustic

Maybe too much effect but i wanted to show that youre not limited to lights. This is an HDRI image of a window mapped on a environment-sphere surrounding the setup and as you can see the window and it's colours are seen in the caustic pattern. This is 20 million photons.

Re: water glass and caustic

Thank you Nico for letting us test your scene. Here is the test setup in return.

Re: water glass and caustic

10 million received photons. This is rendered on a quadcore.

Re: water glass and caustic

Caustics are there but faint from those lowintense luminous planes you added in the scene. To see caustics photons from your lights you have to switch them to inverse square falloff, then you see very strong caustics.

Re: HELP on render times

Have you tried exchanging all your arealights to luminous surfaces? If you do you will have control per surface if you want. I suspect that will be much faster than using Arealights.

Heres a simple test setup that rendered in 2.5 minute on my quadcore.

Also try switching mode for your thousand arealights.

Re: Photon Number Multiplier and Lightmap

Ah.. Yes there's an extraordinary shader tool called "Krayindirectrays". This can only be applied to luminous surfaces though. I havent tested this but if you are using very intensive lights close to other geometry you can probably try to apply the shader to those nearby surfaces and see i...

Re: this image is very red!!!

Have you turned off Self shadow, cast shadow and receive shadow for your skydome? To me it looks like the skydome itself prevents your sunlight from entering the scene. Also 200.000 emitted photons sounds very low to me i would probably render a room with about 2 millions received photons.

Re: Differnet reflection in rc1???

I would try a much lower value such as 2-8 instead of 50 other than that I can't tell what have changed betwen the versions.

Re: resampling very slow help??

The only reason to ever fiddle with the octree settings is if Kray literally stops rendering. This could manifest before, (Octree calculations is much more optimized now) such as when you had for example a building and within that building you added a quite complex object with high polygon count, th...

Re: resampling very slow help??

Octree 60 is really overkill for everything i can think of so 30 will be more than sufficient in almost any situation.
If you set Octree to 60 you will use up a lot of your memory that could be used for better purpose like holding the frame itself in memory.

I must say you have developed a lot! Beautiful image but a little too much sharpness for my taste.
