Blotches...

Here's an apartment I'm working on. Check out the blow-up of the ceiling detail above the kitchen. How do I eliminate those nasty blotches? I see stuff like that all the time with Kray.
Lighting in this scene is one area light with the sunspot motion modifier (1km away), a bunch of downward-facing spots above the kitchen units, and the skylight textured backdrop.

To me it looks like insuficient numbers of FG and/or to far apart.
Could you please send me a simplified version of the scene (just lightsituation and building) so i can look at your settings and tweak it for you?

A quick tip to solve all caching problems, turn off Cache irradiance and use for example MinFG 600 MaxFG 0. Then you dont even need to care about optimizing the scene.

Hi Silverlw. Thanks for the tip. I just sent you the scene.
I've tried switching cache irradiance off and it works like a charm to get rid of the blotches, but it does make the scene more grainy - so I'm currently working to see if I can reduce that as well.

Yes turning irradiance cache off and using static FG value is a "press render and wait until done" mode much like in Lightwave or fprime. If you still get noise with FG 600, use higher until you get the quality you desire.
