materialID and ObjId is great for comp. purposes... use it all the time..

Yes it is. But I've always had problems with it when using RLA/RPF it in Digital fusion since the surface/object edges had very bad AA. How do you tackle that?

just color every surface i need to comp. in a 100% luminance color..
one yellow one blue etc.... in animations you have to setup a copy ov your content dir of course...
