Hi guys, I've moved to a new appartment so I'm designing it and making the choices in 3D. Here is a WIP

You really like the pink and gold colors don't you?

Looks fine so far, add more color to the walls and i'd make the floor white...

My girlfriend does

The floor has wood already.
I'm adding details, but I don't know where to start!
If I add more details should I increase the number of photons?
Or which parameter should I change? I guess it needs more "light resolution" the more you add details, no?

Well photons are not really important for details. Good number for interors are GI resoltion 250mm, photons ~800.000 and N ~1500. Precache distance can be around 70% and you can leave Photon blur at 0%.
To get good details you need to adjust FG settings. Most important is low spatial tolerance to capture fine details and high enough fG rays to get rid of noise/splotches. It's also good to use 1 or 2 path passes to get even better contact shadows in corners.
here are one high quality settings i used....

Thanks it's not always easy to figure out which hparameter to change to obtain a certain effect.

just remember:
photon tab: general light of the scene
FG: detailed shadows
Photons are only there to help interpolate the light in the areas where there are no FG sample points.
Also when turning off Cache irradiance on general tab you disable sample points and make every pixel a sample point. So in this case on FG tab only FG rays controls and Path passes/distance will make difference.
