Kray's hard to get moods

Hello again,
I find this strange: some scenes give me the "unexpected exception" or "no memory for buffer!!!" crash at render time. With some luck, I'll fix the problem with a re-launch of Layout, or greying out some/all surfaces, etc. I'm not sure yet.
But the strange thing is this: when I try to recreate the unstable scene crash with a single polygon - it simply won't crash! Double points, ngons, gradients on every possible channel, procedurals on any possible channel, multiple textures, etc, etc, etc. It just renders perfectly!
How can I trouble shoot these things, when it seems so random?
