Stick to vanilla LW or go with Kray?

I'm in a bit of hard thinking now. I'm REALLY interested in Kray - and I'd love to learn more about modeling with LWCAD (looking forward to the training, Larry!) and get into some more visualization of architecture.
Nowdays I'm starting to do some modeling on a project where the goal is animated 3D illustrations for a corporate presentation. The difference from regular viz/illustration is that we're going away from flat and dull images but rather use realistic light and shadow along with the clean paper model-look. (see attachment)
The question I'm asking myself then: is Kray worth the buck for these kind of images? Would for instance DOF render faster with Kray?
