help exterior lighting for a part of city

hi guys
i need of help because i've problem to setup the best lighting for exterior scene for a place.
i can't see you the scene because it's for contest and it's anonimous...
i have modeled the place, use the dome with sunsky texture at 200% intensity, one area light with falloff and use the sunspot modifier for hour and city but my render are very very bad.....
in interior i'm very happy but in esterior i've problem, big problem...how can see a basic setup for lighting?

Hmm that's going to be realy hard to tell without picture or scene. Can't you just make a simplified scene and substitute object with some simple boxes or such and show us?

the basic exterior tutorial of Florian is very good for initial setup.
i haven't see it
