Formula 1 Ferrari wheel. Yes...WHEEL!!! :D

Hi all.

Just as I thought I'm getting the hang of Kray, things go wrong. This is a model I built along with the steering wheel I posted earlier as part of an entire F1 car I am modelling. More posts and render to follow on the car later! I can hardly wait!

Anycase, I am getting a lot of white spots on the renders, and the blurred reflections are very grainy.

I have used an HDRI image, uffizi_probe.hdr for GI lighting and reflections.

The higher dynamic or strenght you have in a hdri, the higher settings you need in ANY renderer to get a splotchfree/noisefree render. One way to solve it is to limit the dynamic range of the hdri a little bit by adding "hdri exsposure" to the image, example whitepoint 1.0 /blackpoint 80%. There is plenty of tutorials about this subject all over the net. Another way is to increase precision in the renderer, higher settings for blurred reflection, more FG etc.

Make's sense. Thanks Silver.

I'm rendering a new pic now with your recommended suggestions. Darn, soon I'm going to have to pay you guys training fees.

Thanks for all the good advice!

Problem with dots...continued.

I've tried a few things now, from removing the HDR image, to removing reflections, but that's stupid, reflections are a must.

I have now crancked up the reflection blur max to 1000. Hope that's a reasonable value.

Render will hopefully be ready in about 1h30. Coffee?

Do you use limited region to do a quick test?

Homer Simpson: "Dough!!!!!" I am the brightest spa

My knowledge on Kray is so inferrior. Honestly, I did not even know that limited region works with Kray. Thanks Silver. Where would I get without you guys?

Anycase, I upped the Blurring max rays to 1000. The image only took 2hours to render and looked perfect, but stupid me forgot to assign an Output filename for my image.

Can we please have a button on the render screen where we can save our image after rendering, or at least a huge dialog box that pops up warning me about my forgetfullness before having Kray proceed at its perfect task of rendering.

Aaaaaarg!

Update to follow in 2 hours...

Having no problem with dots on the brown stage, but the rims are proving a bit tricky. I suppose I'd have to ramp up the settings even more.

Okay, no matter what I do, this stupid image won't render right. I'm getting fed up and Kray is on its way out the front door.
I've upped the photons to 500000, the fg rays to over 2000. I've tweaked the freaking blurring settings, and tried adjusting the HDRI.

I'm out of options and unimpressed with Kray.

Are you by any chance using blurring accuracy limit lower than 100%?

I've done test renders with 1%, and 100%, both produce noise. I tried raising the min and max to 1000 each, which reduced the noise. Then I raised both to 10000, which finally cleared the noise, but it took forever to render.

That's strange. What are your surface settings?

Hi Jure!

Currently doing process of elimination to see which attribute is causing the blurriness. As far as I know, I've got a problem with the reflection gradient.

If I post the object with scene, could you maby take a quick look, I'm sure it will take you about 15 seconds to realise what a stupid mistake I am making.

Sure, post it!

Damn, I can't get the file compressed to below 256kb to upload. Can I email it somewhere?

Okay I'm lying!!! Stripped the image UV and loaded the SubD version instead.

I've still got specular enabled, I'm having a difficult time creating the same specular effect using a incidence gradient reflection.

Maybe you can help. Oh, and the white noise seems to have dissapeared somehow. It's got to be a problem with the UV map. Not making sense though, it's purely a plain color map with some text on the tyre walls.

Here we go...
