Can't test past builds but the GOLD final is build 2723 30-oct-2013. This was what I tested and like others blank scene renders correctly but add any geometry and it crashes.
Also would suggest to add the 2.51 plugin download on the demo page, as well as whatever the final 2.54 build will be and state they are for which version of LW. As like you mentioned not everyone upgrade, and since they don't work with each other (LW11.5 and 11.6) many will download and think it doesn't work correctly. So...
