Struggling with RC2

Post by vgabex »

Hi!

I've applyed RC2 on a scene, here are the results.

Settings are from the Loft scene.
Reflection blur noise needs fine tuning. (I know there's a problem/bug http://www.kraytracing.com/bugtracker/i ... ask_id=122

During building up the scene I've experienced a lot of crashes.
Almost every time I change something in Modeler (edit geometry, or changes on any surface), save the current object and go back to layout (active Hub connection) I get instant crash when hit render. Sometimes even after if I simply save the scene and save all objects from layout.
After changing anything, before starting a new testrender, I have to restart Layout (2015.1)
What could be the problem? Does anyone else have similar problem?

Congratulations!
First serious render from K3!

- FS#122 is fixed in RC3
- crash after changing in Modeler I will post in bug tracker after RC3 release. I know is annoying: making changes back to Layout hit render and get crash...
...do not worry I keep all issues in order and i know all of them.
- also I will post update settings.

Any information about CPU and time render?

Original renders have 3840x2160 resolution, AA3 then scaled down to 1080p.
CPU: i7 5690x, running at 4.3 ghz.
4k render times between 2 and 3.5h ---> 1080p: 30-50min

I have an another PC with Ryzen 7 1700 clocked at 3.7 ghz. It scores the same ~1600pt in cinebench as my i7 above, but it seems that in K3 it's about 10-15% lower. I'm waiting the benchmark scene very very much to see other result, becouse I'm planning to buy a Threadripper 1950x later this year, and I'd like to see relevant K3 speeds!

An another project, rendered with K3RC2: https://goo.gl/photos/7EkcHPaQjoTMoq7o9

If the "Modeler switch" will be fixed, K3 will be almost flawless for me.

I hope that fixed FS#122 and updated setup will significantly cut down render times. Now I found that the only solution to elminate the noise is render at 4x resolution, and scale back to original.

There are new things in K3RC3:
- noise reduction
- new noise balance bright/dark area
- optimizations

After VCM we will get again boost for time render: this technology will helps us reduce noise in that problematic regions when photons must do really hard job to get accuracy. G. optimize non stop engine - so no worry about noise in future.

For UltraHD resolution you do not need 16 passes. Switch FSAAG4 to FSAAG3.
After K3RC3 you will check again time render, should be better with time and reduce noise.
