simply nordic interior

Post by Janusz Biela »

Hello!

This is my experimental render system without post processing procedures. Whole surface process is done by LW Nodes system.
Here are pro and con aspects which I got from this interesting experiment
Pro:
- fast response for updates – immediately after render we see our tweaks with surfaces
- easy surface update – based on curves, mixers and SimpleColourCorrector
- more realism in render – post processing is not necessary after rendering so image is not destructed by our “idea” of post processing. Post process can be also gently added (for example bloom effect, motion blur, little curve correction)
- QMC sampling based on Photon Mapping solution which gives similar accuracy of Path Tracing but a couple times faster better speed
- pure physical behavior based on real reflection, albedo diffuse system and no specular system (this is my idea for simulation in renders)

Con:
- good knowledge about Nodes especially with surface mixing
- problem with general light – system force users to create immediately in the beginning good light solution which is very difficult in K2…but I think everywhere (situation will change in K3)
- needs more preview renders then standard amount (situation will change in K3 when KrayVPR will allow user do it in real time)

The bloom effect is done in Kray by command:

Code: Select all

post process gblur,5,0.4;
when:
5 is strength of blur
0.4 strength of effect (40%). This is based on blending between normal and blurred image. Parameter 0.0 means no effect.

Differences between Kray RAW render and photo reference comes from no data about real lights in scene (special stand lamp for photographers – I think this reddish color on the sofa is from that lamp, Sun direction and also dimensions)
What do you think?

WOW! Congratulations!

Perfect match. Based on the small images, no one can tell which is the photo. The Best Kray render I have seen!

You definitely should create some tutorial scenes for masses. It would help Kray to be more popular if nany people can reproduce this quality.

At this level, it's very hard to identfy the small differences. On the photo - if that's the photo :) the left side of the sofa is darker. Maybe the less bounced light from the back of the camera?

I think photographer used artificial lights (there is no object with high reflection which allow me discover it). Also real, physical light is very difficult to simulate in computers - it can be situation (I suspect in this scene) when on north side is very cloudy and in south side very sunny. This situation make big difference in light power form north/south directions.
Because this is experimental system - I need test it more to confirm is worth to use or not.
Here is first scene with this system done before Simply Nordic - not so good score but I see progress:

Thanks but this is really not big deal (seriously). Some tweaking in Nodes but most problems came from no real surface shaders. This what offer Newtek in Nodes is joke (speed and quality).
In Global Illumination we can do nothing because is that as should be (Kray has very good GI solution) but in surface field total disappointed: no shaders. Why next step after release K3 engine will be shaders: real surfaces shaders which allow user render without problems velvet, colour translucency, Ani Reflection, real glass, etc.
Soon K3 will have full working status under Lightwave. It means 100% support of K2 - then I will render this scene again but in KrayVPR
