Formula 1 Ferrari steering wheel.

Post by Josamoto »

Hi all! I did this model a couple of months ago, actually it was part of a complete formula 1 car I did as my first ever Lightwave project. Decided to retexture as I learnt a few new techniques since last year.

Hope you all like!

Settings:
Photon mapping, Cache irradiance = on
150 000 lightmap photons (although I have no idea how much is enough!!!)
N = 1200 (Hope that's good enough)
FG Rays Max = 1200
Full screen grid AA, 3 with 32 undersample

PS: Please drop a few suggestions on the texturing. I feel it can look even more photoreal, but I'm sort off out of ideas!!!

Mayby add computer and keyboard... Render with DoF.

I think you did a nice work. The rim looks very nice. I like how the specular highlight is broken.
Few suggestions:
- add an reflection map and make materials on knobs slightly reflective
- add maybe a bit irregularity on knobs to break specular there also.
- Add a bit more depth to "screens" by indenting them more in the body, add reflection and maybe something on the display...
- make background a bit more interesting.. maybe in darker tones also.

Hi all!!! :D

Update with a bit of help from Jure! Thanks

Johhny: Unfortunately I'm too lazy to add a keyboard and computer to the scene. I want the scene to primarily focus on the steering wheel, without too many distractive objects around...but!!! I did decide to try a bit of DOF as per your excellent advice!

The image with DOF is currently rendering, but heres one I added a bit of reflection to the LCD displays to!

Thanks guys!

Are you using specularity on your surfaces? If you are maybe better try without them and use blurred reflections. And fina a nice reflection map, a HDRI one or similar. I suggest checking out this tutorial: http://www.dbki.de/tutorials/eng/hdr_lighting/index.htm
