Best AA setup for render

Post by nico »

Who can explain the best setup for antialiasing in low render (for example 800x600) and High Quality render? There are difference for interior or exterior scene? What's use! Mitchell? Box? Grid? FSAA? Rotate aptive or not?

Personally I use:
1. Under 1000 pix :
FSAA G3 Quadratic 0.8 (under 0.8 You are closer to Catmull)
or
FSAA G3 Catmull
2. 1000 pix - 2000 pix
FSAA G3 Quadratic 1.0 or 1.2
3. A4, A3 and over
FSAA G3 Quadratic 1.2 or for really big resolution FSAA G2 Spline with LimitDR befor tone map.

If You have still problem with edges in all resolutions in High Contrast areas (windows edges, metal edges) then turn ON LimitDR before Tonemap - this will make extra smoothing in those problematic regions.

AA in Kray is not that bad as think people. All render has problem with AA in small resolutions ...so better avoid low res. Personally I try keep all the time 1400 pix minimum and always AA is perfect. Also post process make smoother render.

For me looks as mipmap problem in texture setup (of course if on the roof you have texture). Also I see still AA is too sharp. Are you sure about correct setup in AA tab? Screenshot of tab AA please. Also remember less exponential - bigger Filter Radius in AA. Exponential strongly smooth Filter Radius make it even more soften.

...I have no idea what is the problem. You did not confirm also what kind of roof you used (real shingles models or texture map). Try change AA to another filter also.
If You have shingle wire on the roof maybe texture is wrong I see repeating from texture.

If is texture (which I suspected) then problem is in LW setup or UV map or bad mapping projection. Kray render what LW give - except bugs in Kray. I did not notice last time something weird with texture rendering in Kray. Try also save this map in different formats (for example if You have jpg then save it as png, reload it and try render again - I think I had one time that problem)
