baking GI, each frame 2x slower, 2x less cpu usage

Post by soth3d »

Hi,

I have terrible problem, while baking the calculations for each consecutive frame are taking 2x longer , while CPU usage is getting lower and lower. After 50-100 frames each new frame is taking about forever.

Animation option is on. Its happening for both Save and Add options.
Cheers

I noticed this last time (even when I BAKE every 20th frame)...not all the time. This is very hard to find bug, because is random. In K3.0 perhaps will disappear. Sorry but I suggest save only Photon Map (after start animation Kray shoot photons for whole scene and track camera for it, then start automatically first frame of animation and just press cancel when start second frame. First frame must be done to save this file so remember setup no AA and blur. After when You have Photon Map file - very small file - choice in Kray LOAD. All frame must render with all passes - THIS IS NOT BAKE!)
Maybe method is a bit slower ...but is not:
- You do not waste time for BAKE
- You can stop and continue whatever You want
- You can use this file for another computer and render another range of frames
- You can use this file for network rendering without any problems
- If You will get crash by accidents You can continue without worries
- whole important and dangerus procedure with animation will take maximum ~1 min

Janusz,

I'm currently also having the same issue, I bake every 20 frame. After 60 frames, the next frame need few hours to bake.
Regarding on your Save Photon, can you kindly guide us with Screen shot of the setting please?
I currently in progress of final rendering with full furniture.
