Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie here, just starting out with Lightwave and KRay, I need some advice regarding on my new pc setup. Been doing some searching in this forum recently but seems not much result. My spec are ;

1. AMD Quad Core processor
2. Nvidia GTX 550/560 Ti
3. 4GB Ram

Kindly advice which part plays the most important for 3D software especially for architecture modeling and rendering?

I would go for an i7 with 8gb of ram. Your system now with only 4gb of ram will be limited in larger renders.

Medzo: due to budget limitation, i have to go for AMD (considering if possible to get the latest 8core series)

VPii: 16GB? 1600mhz and above?

Do I need to get a better Graphic Card or Processor?

I know budget is budget but I never trusted AMD , Intel has power, even if is expensive....
16GB? 1600mhz and above?
minimum 16 GB

Processor, processor and again processor....

Mario: I'm using existing Windows 7 64bit, so, 16gb ram should b no problem.

Janusz: Thanks for the recommendation. I wonder if the Admin would pin up any post on hardware requirements, recommendations like a FAQs post.

Conclusion:
1. Processor : Intel i7 or higher (more processor, better performance)
2. Ram: 3D software especially Lightwave are RAM dependant
3. Graphic Card: Nvidia GTX560 Ti and above
4. Power Supply : More power

Any more input please?

Yes of course. I think only x64  ...and really 16 GB is minimum (It save a lot time...)

1,2, and 4 This is the most important . Powers supply must be high class! do not save money with CPU and RAM! rest is no important
Also monitor (You need really see colors and contrast)
http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/lg ... 56027.html I have this and this is minimum (is not pro pro but I am very content) Is my first monitor which I could setup good gamma level (no external hardware gamma setup , this is different).

You mean, there's no need for other hardware / software setting to allow high level of gamma display?

All monitors need settings so You have two ways

1. Hardware display calibrator http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3545/3774 ... f021_z.jpg

2. Manual (this is my favorite chart)

if u went to try AMD they have one cpu have 16 core low price mybe irs coast avout 632 $ no as xeon 16 core 45OO $ here in algeria u can buy car with 4500$ wtf .

and about ram . if u went work smoothly u must to have min24G very good also u can work on all complex nd huge scn easly .

about graphics card . u must to have good one . cz i have old Gtx285 i get many problem with it nd lightwave cz my mother board asus p6T deluxe 2 cant support this card so lightwave also bad opengl support we havnt direct x mod . dat why u need to take care about the whole things also for graphics card + mother board Support details before u buy it .

i hope thos information can help u littel bit . thnx .

you can always reference things here... http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ They also have a section for GPU's, but without GPU accelleration like in Octane and maybe KR3.0 it will not affect your OGL in Lightwave much. Just put a GTX 690 and Titan ($1,000+) cards and they react the same as my Quadro FX 3700 (4 year old card). The cuda cores are amazing though....so for future software it's nice...

For testing hardware in render is only one solution: Cinebench 11.5
http://http.maxon.net/pub/benchmarks/CINEBENCH_R15.zip
This software is very accurate.

For these who doesn`t know how to read scores:
- i7 CPU 12 HT 3.3 Ghz the score is around 8.4 pts
- Dual Xeon 32 HT 2.6 Ghz the score is around 24 pts (so around 3 times faster the i7)
For people who render by CPU important is only this test (multi CPU test)

Benchmarking GPU render need special tests which often are include specific render software (Octane benchmark scene for example)
