Old Kray still Rocks ! and potential of this software is huge.

Still waiting for G. answer.
Old kray engine was always good. It just didn't support features that were badly needed by studios like micropoly displacement, exr buffers, hair.
If those were added early on kray would have been on the maintream path like vray. Octane render is copying the path of vray and developing those three features I mentioned for octane v2.

How did you make corona test scene to render in full hd and 150 passes?

In Corona folder is setting file - there you must edit what you want.

The bat file? I don't see how to input resolution and number of passes.
It took less than 5 mins with 1024x576 with 100passes. Very noisy but lighting quality is very nice.

Hi,
today most engines tend to overlap feature wise, and i'm sure Kray is near Vray, which is near Corona.
Said this, going in the detail, Corona implements the very best of the kernel out today, like Vertex Merging, which is a smart combo or bidirectional pathtracing and progressive photonmapping - same of Renderman RIS. This engine is able to get unbiased quality even if it's partially biased, in much shorter time than Vray. As many guys said at the demo i saw, it's maxwell-like quality with half than Vray times.
Maybe in some scenes it can be as fast as Kray, but i think it's difficult Kray (in its current implementation) can be as fast in all scenes. Maybe it can, but yu have to tweak and tweak until you find the "hot-spot" in settings, but this is not what you woul do in production situation (this is a face to face comparison, it's easier to try to replicate).
For sure you can get similar results and go near with times, but remember Corona need pratically no parameter tweaking, while Kray need a vey deep knowledge to be optimized. Maybe things will change in 3.0.
Anyway, i hope Grzegorz will implement some of this technology in Kray 3, instead of plain photonmap + FG (which today is starting to be old technology). I attended at a demo of Corona last week, where Juraj Talcik and the dev show some things, and i was really impressed to see it needs to do anything but render. No grain, no splotch, nothing to do in case of very complex vegetation (in any other engine you must set different parameters for vegetation or rays get mad, or Octree goes mad, and so on), and he rendered a villa scene, both interior and exteriors, with just a sky and a sun. And all views were perfect with nothing else to do, out of render, he just moves the camera from outside to inside.
Imho it's the way to go - no setup, smart engine, advanced technology, perfect result in short times.
I'm very curious to see advancements in Kray 3, for sure it will be a tough comparison.

Thanks for info. Of course Grzegorz know system in Corona and this will be easy to add in Kray3. This what I do not like in Corona is too strong tone mapping..bending physics strongly and this make me worry about some cases (especially in animation or ultra realistic renders). Anyway I will talk with him about this subject again and I will post soon some informations.
This is of course not pure Path Tracing in Corona - this is interpolate Path Tracing. Interpolated is also second phase when you see render - similar to Final Gathering.
I can be wrong in some details because I am not specialist. Whatever it is, is quite fast and accurate and this is important

corona is an interesting development for sure! but when looking close at corona's renderings i'm totally missing that 'real' touch. it looks all very pleasant, but somehow a bit 'fake', imo. but maybe it's more important to look good than real? probably, in the right hands, you can make it look totally realistic, but then render times are still that good? when a decent GUI for LW is out maybe we will know more by trying ourselfs how it does deal with hundreds of lights etc. i'm always sceptical when optimized benchmark scenes are provided by developers...

sure the 'zero config' or almost scenario is maybe the most interesting aspect of this new engine!

in any case, please get out kray 3.0 asap. we need a tight integrated LW engine which can render faster than native LW's. corona's vertex merging technology, etc. is always good for a version 3.5, right? ;-)

Fully agree. Update cycle is too long.
