We're slowly approaching the end of the year.
Still eagerly waiting for Kray 3.0
Any news, will it be soon?

My supervisor wants me to switch to Max and I would love to give him a reason why we shouldn't .....

Januz are we able to use kray 2 even if we install kray 3 plugin?
I hope thats possible and will not interfere with kray 2 plugins.

I do not think so will be problem. I have both and they works independently. But it`s too early to say more in this phase. In my opinion will be no problem at all. K3 is new engine with new code and what is the best: you can render in the same time and still use GUI (because K3 now render directly from Layout in the same way as Native Render Engine or VPR. Grzegorz strongly works on "listening" module now and I think very soon I should receive first pre beta version with full working photon mapping.

Hey Janusz!

What about learning curve? Is any of our knowledge from K2.5 going be of any use or is K3.0 totally new product with completely different settings?

No settings are the same because are nothing new to invent except one: will be less to setup in GUI (No AA, no blurr, no Final Gathering, no Area Light setup, in animation only button for render) All those settings will be under one button.
Pressing HQ render you will be sure everything will be perfect (this of course need longer time render but you will not lose time for experiments so in the end it will be faster)
I will prepare three pre sets - low, medium High (ultra fast prev, fast Surface render, Final render) and by this under button Render will be whole setup which you will not see.
Of course Advanced button must be.

But under advanced tab, are we going to know what to tweak or will we need to learn it from scratch?

Yes, next week we start officially beta test :D
It will be really fast phase because it is fast evolution process to connect Kray (I talk about porting to the Lightwave)
We go straight to new AA and FG (the most important thinks in engine)
But for me the most important part of engine: Render directly render from Layout...so no more copy RAM and buffers at all. This will affect in future VPR for Kray and another real time stuff.

That's great, will the beta test versions be available to existing Kray customers? I've been patiently waiting years now for something beyond Kray2 with better buffer support, etc.

Thanks Janusz, Jure, Gregorz & co.!

The beta coming very soon, I got information.
When K3 core will start work properly then we will start add all thinks what are needed.
The code is so huge now with almost new parts and connect this to LW really need time. Also we must remember: to connect for example V-ray to sketchup you need much less job then connect Kray to Lightwave. This last one is very expanded and professional software with hundreds options and this all parts must work properly in Kray.
Will post soon some news or maybe first beta test renders
