Re: Podium/Kray

Janusz is quite correct. Serious professional visualisers will always want to use a more capable modeller than SketchUp, and for animation, no-one should seriously consider SketchUp as a tool for professional high quality output. It can do basic things fairly well, but not much of any complexity. Th...

Re: Help with Kray texture baking

Hmm, interesting. I don't think I have ever seen any scene with any level of detail render in 20 minutes. What are your QMC settings? I use GI Resolution 0.5 Photons -800000 PmN 800 Min FG rays 5000 Max FG rays 0 FGblur 2 All the other settings are the same as the equivalent for biased renders. If I...

Re: Help with Kray texture baking

Because doesn't exist good FG engine (Is big chance K3 will have the best from all renders) To achieve same quality by FG it must be setup very high which affect almost same time render. So that means that you get lower quality renders for texture baking if you aren't using FG. Of course QMC can be...

Re: Help with Kray texture baking

Yes, QMC is grainy (I can clearly see noise on your image) unless you increase values which increase the render time significantly.
The alternative is to double render size and reduce the image size. That smooths everything out.

Re: Help with Kray texture baking

Okay, that's interesting. Why no FG? And if you are only using QMC now, I'm guessing that isn't for all renders surely? I have found them more time consuming and very grainy, although they are accurate. Is this a new Kray 3 thing? :P For normal scenes, I'm using your biased settings and getting bett...

Re: Help with Kray texture baking

Okay, so to produce this, you render the texture and reapply it to the model. How long does this take for each stage?

Re: Help with Kray texture baking

Wow - now that's impressive! Why hasn't Kray conquered the market for games modification?

Thanks!

Re: Help with Kray texture baking

Thanks Janusz, that's really helpful! So in effect you could create a specific texture bake render preset for this. I'm glad to see that it's fast. It should be perfectly possible to render reflections and bump with the texture-baked model. If you want to create animations, by splitting the render i...

Re: Help with Kray texture baking

I saw these images and they are beautiful! But baking textures is not that important. Well - that depends on what you want to do ;) Rendering convincingly is difficult. Creating animations to the same kind of quality is another level of difficulty up again. Apart from the fact that you have to set u...

Re: Help with Kray texture baking

Actually, as much of a pleasure as it is to look at Janusz's work, his site is no good for what I need. It's full of beautiful photographic renders, but there is no information on things like texture baking, and I didn't see any videos either. Some years ago I saw a fantastic example of a texture-ba...

Help with Kray texture baking

Sorry if I've missed something obvious in the forum, but I'm looking for information on texture baking. My understanding is that this is where a model is rendered, and the lighting and shadows baked onto the textures, and reapplied to the model. In theory, if the baking and texturing is quick enough...

Re: any news from kray world?

Wow - Solidrocks, although much simpler than the usual UI, is still quite complicated! There are some things Kray could learn from it though. Automatic white balance, realtime tonemapping are just two.

Thanks for the info!

Re: any news from kray world?

Kray can definitely be made easy enough for Daz. Materials are complex in themselves, more like the Max/Maya node-based approach. Kray has render presets, which is the same approach that Podium uses. There seems to me to be no reason why if someone is prepared to develop an interface which allows si...

Re: any news from kray world?

What about Daz3d and Blender? If you are going after markets which are emerging (although Blender has been around for a long time), popular, and don't have an established number 1 render engine, these two are a good start. I do wonder how many Blender users would be prepared a reasonable amount for ...

Re: Kray for other 3D packages?

I posted a reply on this topic here http://www.kraytracing.com/joomla/phpbb ... tart=30%20

I think we have a restrictive licence on SketchUp which prevents anyone else developing a competing Kray render plugin.
